Lonavala

Forts and ancient Buddhist caves around the "hill station" Lonavala that is situated ca. 65 km northwest of Pune.

		Rajmachi Fort Starting north off Lonavala, there is a hiking path along a valley and up a hill to the fort.
		Karla Caves The Karla Caves are the best-known ancient Buddhist rock cave monasteries in the Pune area, but they are much smaller than the famous Ellora and Ajanta Caves near Aurangabad.
		Bhaja Caves A smaller ancient Buddhist cavemonastery near the Karla Caves.
		Bedse Caves A lesser known ancient Buddhist cave monastery that is difficult to find.
		Lohagad Fort This fort, also built by Shivaji, is on the top of a mountain that has a ca. 500m long spur named Vinchu Kata with a bastion at the end.
